YEA Camp
An unforgettable
week-long summer camp
- now for adults(!) who want to
make a bigger difference in the world.

Yes, it's true! The premier social justice leadership camp for teens is launching a special session especially for adults who want to take action and create positive change in the world!

YEA* Camp is a life-changing camp for world-changing teens  -- now with a camp for adults!
For nearly a decade, we've trained hundreds of teens from all across the US and 10 countries around the world to learn how to make a difference on a cause they care about -- all while having a life-changing experience for themselves.
After camp, many teens have gone on to do amazing, inspiring things to protect the environment, advocate for human rights, help animals, influence elections, raise funds, and more -- things they tell us they didn't know how to do or believe they could do before coming to YEA Camp!
If they can do it so can you!
Lots of adults have wished YEA Camp had been around when they were a kid and asked us to offer a program for adults.
We agree and are thrilled to be offering our first ever social justice camp for adults who want to make our world a better place!
*BTW, like voting "yea or nay," we pronounce "YEA" to rhyme with "hey"!

It's clear that our world needs help.

Even before the 2016 US presidential election, things needed to shift. Now it's beyond obvious that as progressive-minded people who care about human rights, the environment, and protecting animals, we have our work cut out for us.
We started YEA Camp because most people have little training in figuring out how to address the injustices of our society. The problems our world faces are too dire for us to just stumble along without support.

Without knowing what to do, it's easy to feel lost, discouraged, hopeless, and even ashamed for not doing enough -- which can spiral into doubting that change is even possible.

But not only is change possible, it is happening and it is guaranteed, one way or another. As changemakers, we get to decide which direction we want to push our society towards.

YEA Camp is here to empower you to bring about the change you wish to see in the world.

You care too much and our problems are too serious for you not to be making as big a difference as you can.

YEA Camp can help you:

  • Build your confidence and belief in yourself to step up on a cause you care about.
  • Learn skills that you can apply right away to make a difference in your community
  • Manage negative emotions to help you move forward strategically, sustainably, and with compassion
  • Develop a plan to have a bigger impact with the time you have.
  • Feel more optimistic about the state of our world and the movement for social justice.
  • Feel restored and rested by spending a week at an animal sanctuary out in nature with supportive, like-minded people.
  • Prevent burnout and commit to a healthy practice of self care to sustain you for a long, healthy, change-making life.
  • Become part of an inspiring community that will cheer you on long after camp ends.
  • Have one of the best weeks of your life!*

At YEA Camp, we don't pretend to have all the answers to the massive problems in our world, but our team has learned a lot in our many years of activism, and we have developed a comprehensive program to advance your change-making efforts.

Ocean Robbins“YEA Camp is not only one of the most fun events ever created – it just might shift the course of history. The more people who participate in YEA Camp, the more hope we will have for our future.”

-Ocean Robbins, Founder, Youth for Environmental Sanity (YES!), and CEO, The Food Revolution

YEA Camp for Adults is part summer camp and retreat, and part transformational activist training.
Can anyone explain why adults don't still go to camp? Camp is so fun!

Changing the world will take a while, and we all need to take care of ourselves so we can keep going and enjoy our lives while we're in this for the long haul.

This is not a conference! Expect the sweet rejuvenating silliness of playing ridiculous games, singing songs, roasting (vegan) marshmallows, making new friends, and generally having a lot more fun each day than you probably have at home. And can you even have a camp without a talent show or a dance party?

This week we will have daily time to visit with animals, be in nature, do yoga and meditation, journal and reflect on what matters most to us, and surround ourselves with positive people who care just as much as we do.

YEA Camp covers a lot, but we also go deep. We will challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and into your power to make a difference on what's most important to you.

Through interactive workshops, skillshares, and experiential activities, you will get training and support to help you get out there and take your activism to the next level. You'll learn from case studies of activist successes, improve your communication skills to deal with any situation, apply strategies for maximizing your effectiveness, catalyze negative emotions about the world, network with like-minded people and organizations, and come away with an action plan to make a difference when you get home.

Rose Aguilar“YEA Camp keeps me hopeful and inspired! Whenever I need a break from the news, which is often depressing and toxic, I check out the YEA Camp website to watch videos and read stories about young people working to make the world a better place for all... We need YEA Camps in every state across the country!”

–Rose Aguilar, host of Your Call radio show (on KALW, San Francisco NPR affiliate) and author of "Red Highways: A Liberal’s Journal Into the Heartland"; YEA Camp Advisory Board member

YEA Camp is not about any one cause. We are committed to furthering social justice by recognizing and emphasizing the interconnection of different struggles and will support you to work on whatever you're most passionate about -- what we call your Issue of Importance, or "IOI."

Our interactive and engaging popular education style approach guided by experienced activists taps into the collective knowledge, wisdom, and experience of the group, versus merely lecturing or imparting our wisdom.

From our own experience as activists, we have identified 4 core areas that we feel are critical for people to take empowered effective action to make a difference, and YEA Camp's curriculum is based upon developing these four core areas:

KNOWLEDGE about problems in the world and solutions to effectively address them;

SKILLS to be more effective with your communication, social media efforts, campaigning, grassroots outreach, political engagement, and more;

CONFIDENCE to expand your comfort zone when needed, and to believe in your ability to make a difference in the first place;

COMMUNITY so you know you're not alone, and are connected with supportive peers and organizations to collaborate with.

Cultivating these four areas during our week together builds upon itself and works synergistically to set you up to make a massive difference on your IOI when you go home.

Jasmine“This week has truly boosted my spirits and given me all that I need to make the world a better place. I’m not sure what I’d do if there weren’t people like you guys to support people like me and to restore my faith in humanity. Thanks so much — this week is one of the most valuable in my life.”

-Jasmine, camper from Connecticut

If you're a progressive-minded adult who wants to make a more significant impact in the world, in a word, YES!

Because YEA Camp is not about any one cause or issue, we attract people passionate about social justice causes like racism, sexism, LGBTQ rights, the environment, animal protection, and more.

You may already been involved in some activist causes and looking to take your impact to the next level, or you might just be getting started. Our curriculum is designed to be applicable to help anyone make a bigger difference, no matter what their issue of importance or experience.

Please note, YEA Camp is not the right for you if:

  • You don't support progressive causes including human rights (such as addressing racism, sexism, and LGBT rights), environmental conservation, and animal welfare.
  • You feel you're already on track in your activism and don't need any further support or training. (GO YOU!!)
  • You insist on being angry, negative, closed to others' points of view, or set in your ways.
  • You're not willing to help create an environment at YEA Camp that pulls for everyone's success.

If you have questions or concerns about if YEA Camp for Adults is right for you, please contact us so we can help you make an informed choice.

Gene Baur“I love being able to recommend YEA Camp for [those] who feel the call to change the world, be of service, and create a better life for all of Earth’s inhabitants. At Farm Sanctuary, we have long observed the powerful change that occurs when caring people join together and explore pathways to turn their compassion into action, and I’m thrilled this program exists to support [people] in doing just that.”

Woodstock Farm Sanctuary - High Falls, NY
Sunday July 1 - Saturday July 7, 2018

We couldn't think of a better location for this special session of YEA Camp than Woodstock Farm Sanctuary, which provides a lifelong home to hundreds of rescued animals -- and also happens to be the grounds of a former summer camp, complete with dining hall, cabins, and campfire. This week will be our sanctuary to create the conditions for us to step up and make a bigger difference in our world.
High Falls is located about 90 minutes from New York City, outside the town of New Paltz, and easily reached by bus or car from Manhattan.
This unforgettable week will be packed with so much fun, inspiration, relaxation, and transformational training that it will be a valuable and restorative respite from life and work at home, and a catalyst for the next level of activism you embark on.
Note: We've strategically planned our dates for the week of July 4th so you'll likely miss fewer days of a quieter week at work. Camp starts on Sunday at noon and ends on Saturday at noon to give plenty of time for travel, even if you're coming from far away.

Bianca“YEA was amazing... I know I’ve said it over and over again, but this camp has truly changed my life. You have inspired me to do so much with my life and to make the world a truly better place... Because of you, I have been able to actually make a difference, even within only a few months.”

-Bianca, Camper from California

YEA Camp is proud to provide food truly fit for changemakers.
We have a personal vegan chef along with a skilled team dedicated to serving delicious, nutritious, foods to keep us nourished, healthy, and fueled for change.

Of foundational importance at YEA Camp is highlighting the activism we can do in our daily lives. That's why all the food at YEA Camp is vegan, fair-trade, and organic and local where possible. You’ll quickly see that we don't need to sacrifice our taste buds for our ethics.
We strive to include meals from different cultures so you can expect meals featuring Indian, Mexican, Thai,  Italian, Japanese (sushi!), or Mediterranean dishes, as well as YEA Camp classics like strawberry French toast and pancakes (mmm), veggie burgers, freshly baked vegan pizza, and chocolate chip cookies for a treat. Each meal also offers fresh fruit or salad. Between breakfast, lunch, dinner, 2 snacks, and dessert, you will be well fed!

No problem! Just let us know what you need. We easily accommodate food allergies and specific needs.
For more info about specific meals, click here to see an example of what we offer for our teen camps. Keep in mind that our menu for the adult camp will offer options that are a bit healthier than at our youth camps.

"The food was delicious, and I’m not even vegan!”

-Elaina, teen camper from Oregon

Tuition for our week together is $1,600.

This includes your overnight stay, all meals, and everything we do together at YEA Camp. You will not need any money while at YEA Camp.

Hillary Rettig“YEA Camp is unique in its ability to nurture [people] with an activist or community vision and help them prepare for lives of purpose, effectiveness, and joy.”

Q: “Can I room with someone I know from home?”

A: We thought you might ask that.

Well, here’s the thing. You *could,* but we don’t recommend it. We’ve found that campers who come with a friend from home usually want to spend a lot of time with that friend - at meals, in activities, in the cabin. We get it, your friend is awesome! But if you’re doing that you don’t make as much effort to make new friends. Other people might be less likely to approach you too, if you’re always with your besty from home. This is a chance of a lifetime to make new activist-minded friends, and we don’t want you to miss it. So we will say yes if you insist but we really don’t recommend it.

Q: Can we get up earlier to shower or exercise -- or sleep in later?

We typically have 2 wake-up times, one at 7 or 7:15 for early risers who want to shower or exercise or just get up early, and one at 8 for those who don't want to drag themselves out of bed til the last minute. (We understand.)

Usually a staff member will offer an optional early morning activity, like running or yoga for those who want it.

Q: What do I need to bring?

A: We’ll send you our packing list that’s in our welcome packet once you register, and that will have all the details!

“My experience at YEA Camp is indescribable. I am so happy I came. I am inspired to go out and make my views heard. I gained tons of confidence, filled my toolbox with awesome skills, and learned how to be effective in telling people what I believe. There is a place for everyone at YEA, and there is so much to learn. You don’t have to be an activist already to come, either.”
